SELECTOR'S CENTURY.
M. L Page Scores 133 in Just
Over Two Hours.
Batting for West Christchurch last Saturday, while J. L. Kerr ancl M. P. Donnelly were absent with the Canterbury Plunket Shield team, at Dunedin, M. L. Page, the 1937 New Zealand captain in Great Britain, played a masterly innings of 133. Playing against 014 B.oy«, ho battel 125 minutes, and the fielders scurrying with drives, hooks and cuts.
Donnelly, by the way, has been one of the summer's disappointments, after a brilliant season in the Old Country two years ago. He made a glorious 137 for West Christchurch in a race against time on January 30, with St. Alban's >8 the opposition, but 111 his six visits to the crease in the shield series he aggregated only 79 rune. His highest score of 49, peculiarly enough, was made as partner to Kerr (captain), when Canterbury opened its second innings at C'arisbrook. This.,payed the way for an--other outright defeat for Otago, who had a first innings lead of 64 runs. Although Pag© was Canterbury's sole selector this year, he did not take part in any of his province's three games.
