HOSPITAL PLANS.
Mr. C. W. Gaeton says he hae read with surprise Mr. Moody*s proposal to build a newhospital at a cost of £1.500,000. Let me eay that I have read the same proposal with much pleasure and wish to add that the money can and must be found. A new hospital, constructed on the most modern linee and equipped with the latest scientific appliances is long overdue; and I take this opportunity of acclaiming Mr. Moody the hero of the hour. The care of the sick is the firet charge on the community, and nuiet be carried to the most successful issue, no matter what the cost may be. And if there is to be any skimping of the purposes for which rates are paid, let it be of something other than hospital necessities. I suggest that the new hospital be built in the Domain, and that the buildings and eite—or part of them—of the present one be commercialised and that the proceeds gained therefrom be devoted to covering the cost of the new project. J.W.H.
