ROTORUA CANDIDATES

NOITARO'S SMART FIVE.

BACEUNE>S GOOD THREE.

(By Telegraph.—Spoci.il to •* Star.")

HAMILTON", this day

The Xo. 2 giass was available for galloping at Te llapa this morning and (provided excellent going. A number of Rotorua candidates were given their final trials, but despite the fact that they were travelling only over the actual distance, times generally were not exceptional, the best of the morning being 4 smart five/ by Xoitaro and three by Racelino, a Colossus coit and a Surveyor filly. The best over a distance was the effort of the maiden, Forest Lake. Rollicker (Thomson) came home from the five furlong post in 1.6. He looks none tlve worse for racing at Ellerslie. A useful half-mile was credited to Jean Quex (Thomson) who accounted for Caloric (Jones) in 49 4-ss. Jean Quex lias been making nood progress of late. W.vndorn (KnsorJ dashed over three furlongs in 4<ts. Forest Lake (Uollo]>) who lias 'boi'ii racing over lmidk's of late, ran once round in 1.50 4-s—the best of the morning over the distance. There was little between Midland (McLaughlin) and Water i'ox (Lpng) over the deciding stages of rive furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Prince Acre (Winder) and Susan (Hain) negotiated a round in 1.53. Diversity (Jones) ran half a mile in MMa. Mio Fratollo (JinsorJ, who looks improved with racing at Matumata, was timed to cover a eimiiar distance in 50s —a useful effort for a horse of his class. A Colossus colt and a Surveyor filly were responsible for a smart three furlongs, finishing attractively to record 36'/2s. Awhiowhio (McLaughlin) and Sen Acre (Long) came homo the h'nal three furlongs of their work in 38%5. The former is on the upgrade and is to have tiis first start after a spell at the Waikato meeting this month. Malagigi (Goulsbro) and Bark Shadow (Thomson) were companions over a round and were not bustled to traverse the distance in 1.54 4-5. Malagigi is holding his condition well and should strip in solid fettle when called upon to race. Raceline (Thomson) indicated that he is in good order for racing at Kotorua by dashing home from the three furlong post in 36Me.' Du Maurier (Long) was not extended to record 54 4-5e for half a mile. Lornacre (Long) followed in 53 4-ss. The best sprint of the morning was credited to Xoitaro (Long), v/h& hit out attractively over five furlongs in 1.2, her final half-mile occupying 495. Koitarn is an acceptor for both the Mokoia Hack and the sprint at Rotorua on Saturday and should give a good account of herself in whichever she etarte. Racewhip (Gilmer) and Inness Lad (Muir) ran once round, the former finishing clear of h)3 companion in 1.57 2-5. Sergia (Thomson) sprinted down the straight. She is bearing a healthy appearance and will lack nothing on the score of condition for racing over the week>end. Cynierfl Smile (Winder) and Mio Lump. (McLaug-hlin) were schooled over five hurdles and shaped WelL Racewhip (Gilmer) and Inneee Lad (Muir) were associated ovefr a round of hurdles and gave a satisfactory display. Later, Cappy (Muir) was sent ovef eight hurdles in all and, though, he was not quite at home at several of the fence*, he, nevertheless, gave a creditable exhibition.
