WOOL FIRM.
SALE AT DUNEDIN. LOCAL BUYERS KEEN. LICENSE SCHEME HELPS. (B/ TtHgraph.—Press AMoclatlon.) DUNEDIN, thii day. The second Dunedin wool sale of the eeaeon at which 27,303 bales were offered, opened brtokly, 400 lots being disposed of in 55 minutes. Competition was keen with the local mills and French buyers active, the latter seeking wossbreds and the former euperfinc grade*. The local demand was stimulated through the Government's assurance that importation of oversea* woollen goods would be restricted.
Price* were firm on Invercargill rates on Friday, but under the rates obtained In Dunedin in December. The top price for the first catalogue wae l">ld, obtained twice for a line of eupei* Merino and a line of fine quarterbred. Passings were few. Upward Trend Maintained. The upward trend in value* which marked the Invercargill eale was more than maintained at the Dunedin sale, ntw» halfbreds and crossbrpds being slightly dearer than Invercargill rates, and practically similar to prices realised here in December. Ordinary half bred* were al*o on * par with December, and definitely higher than those ruling in Chrietchurch. Of all the gradee, only pieces ehowed a decline on values at the first sale, but thi« decline was only slight. Price* were actually a little firmer compared with recent value*.
