BLIND SURFER SAVED.
DRIFTING NEAR ROCKS. ! REGULAR BEACH DEVOTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, February 2. When a man was rescued by lifesavers at Freshwater on Sunday, Sydney learned that a blind surfer is among its regular beach devotees. The man, Eddy Collins, aged 28, had been surfing on a rubber float and waa about 130 yards from the shore when it was noticed that ho was in danger of being washed against the rocks, and lifesavers went out and brought him in.
Blind since childhood, Collins is a keen .surfer, and is well known to life-savers on all tlie metropolitan beaches and they keep special watch over him. He goes out on his float to the first line of breakers and finds his way about in the surf by the voices of other bathers.
He walks about in the city street* without fear, sometimes rides a bicycle, and plays the piano accordion.
