ENTAIL SPBIKTS MX. CANDIDATES FOR HAWERA. Entail (W. Rayner) and Homily (F. Latham) jumped off together at the six furlong* peg and ran the distance in 1.17, with Entail, on the outer, going along very freely half a lmpth in front. They ran the first quarter m 24 4-5e and the half-mile in 40 4-ss. Homily will not do her beat on the tracks, but ahe is very fit, and, with R. McTavieh in the saddle, should make a bold bid in the Egmont Cup, in which f''e hae only 7.9. Entail is well enough uud epeedy enough to win the Whareroa Handicap, but he cannot ■foe depended upon to do his best in a race as a standing start does not suit him. He will be ridden by McTavieh. Portal (M. Horne) and Darthura (Latham) were associated in a spin over half,- a mile, which wae, cut ■ out in 51s. Darthura came away over the "last bit to finish over a length in front. She i> to run in the Trial at Hawera and should go well with G. R. Tattersall in the saddle. Portal- is to have his next race at Woodville. The Pombal gelding has gone on the right way since running third in his only start to date at Trentham in October. He has not been hurried as he is a big fellow and is growing. Submission (Home) slipped over half a mile by herself in 50tte, doing it nicely. The Limond filly ii to have her next race in the Juvenile Handicap at Wanganui. The Tryst went half a mile by himself in 00 4-os. The Myosotis youngster is to run in the Juvenile Handicap at Hawera on Thursday and is not without prospects. The track was faster after breakfast, when Amigo (R. Bentley) and Amatory (M. Horne) Went six furlongs together. Amatory had a break of a length and a half at the jump off, which was almost from a stand, but Amigo was soon on term*. They ran, the first three furlongs in 37tts and the halt-mile in 50s, Amigo finishing a shade in front in 1.15%. Amigo has been galloping well since his boltint escapade of last week and will be hart! to beat at Hawera. He has been paid up for both in the sprint event and the cup, but so fa.- no rider has been engaged for the Beau Pere gelding. Although Amatory had a big advantage in weight, it was a good performance. on his part and he should run well in his Hawera engagements. No rider has yet been engaged for him in the Waipapa Hack event on Thursday, but it is probable he will be ridden by an apprentice. r

the nomination* for the Widgsnui Jockey Club , * autumn meeting, to be held on February 23 and 25,. are very satisfactory, and aome excellent racing ia nnaured. There are 17 engaged in the Wanganui Cup. including last year'* winner. Brazen King, and Master Cyklon, who won in 1987; ' With The Bigot, Wotmn, Amigo and Beanpartir also engaged there ie no lack of claw.
