SIMILARITY OF WORDS.
WITTICISMS IN FRANCE. PARIS. The word "hache" in French not only stands for an axe but afeo for the letter H, and thi* fact has been made the occasion for a number of witticisms concerning the relation between the committee recently established by the Ministry of Finance for the application of administration economies, which is colloquially given the title which all Englishmen will recognise as the fateful "heure haehe" for going "over the top, towards which officer* , watches were set before an attack during the war. Those who have reason to fear that the axe will fall upon them nevertheless draw a certain amount of hope from the recollection that only a few years ago, when M. Laval was Prime Minister, there was set up another committee of the same kind, and that its activities were not followed by any action.
