CABARET METROPOLE.
In a Hollywood setting the Coconut Grove Hotshots, stationed on the orchestral dais at the Cabaret Metropole, last evening presented a characteristic programme of rhythmical swing music that well satisfied the present-day demand for verve and speed. TJie saxophonists, Messrs. Shi* Berry and Phil Bower, contributed specialties that evoked hearty applause from the crowded throng of dancers, and the pianist, Mr. W. Massey, proved himself a skilful accompanist in the various show numbers.
Quicksteps, slow and quick foxtrots and jazz waltzes were the order of the evening, and the original musical interpretations were evidence of the up-to-dateness of the Hotshots, led by their accomplished young conductor. Popular featured selections of overseas vogue were "Dedicated to You" and "Coquette," interspersed with syncopated versions of old-time melodies.
The new air-conditioning system installed in the cabaret was greatly appreciated by the guests.
