FORMER POLICE OFFICER.
UTE MB. A. McGILP. A representative gathering attended the funeral at Birkenhead yesterday afternoon of the late Mr. Alexander Mcfiilp, who was a well-known retired police officer. Among those present were the Mayor or Hirkenliead, Mr. E. J. Osborne, Constable C. Snow, of Birkenhead, Constable J. Horan, of Northeote, and two former colleagues, ex-Inspector J. W. Hollia and exDetective John Strathern. The Scottish lament, "Cioing Home to Kin tail," was piped on arrival at the cemetery by Mr. Donald Scott, Ins|>ector of Police at Auckland, who also played the lament, "The Flowers of the Forests," at the close of the graveside service. The Rev. Ferguson Fish, of St. James' Presbyterian Church, Auckland, officiated at the services at the house and at the Birkenhead cemetery.
A large number of messages of condolence were received and also numerous beautiful wreaths.
