VIRILE CAR.

NEW STANDARD EIGHT. REMARKABLE PKRFORMAXCE. What puzzles I'ne confirmed big-car driver, after having driven the 19.'5 pde luxe 8 li.p. Standard, in how the designers have orainmeil so niucli "|>ep" into its little engine. With aceeleration worthy of a much bigger ear. and the ability -o maintain fairly high average speeds over long distances, its performance is some-J thing really remarkable while, where economy is concerned, it is ideal. After severe tests its makers claim for it .V 2 in.p.p. at 30 m.p.h.. 45 ni.p.g. at Ift m.p.h.. an<l 3fi m.p.g. at .">0 m.p.h., while the average on long runs is estimated at 4o m.p.g. Oil consumption is one. gallon to 1000 mile*. At its maximum revolutions per minute (4000). the engine develops 31 brake horse-power. An interesting feature, found on few cars of its size and price, is independent front-wheel suspension, by means of a transverse leaf-spring. Powerful Bendix meclianical brakes stop the car ill 30ft from 30 miles an hour. The body, which lias been redesigned for this year, is extremely pleasing in appearance, having a well-swept tail which encloses a useful luggage boot, the spare wheel, and tools. The taillamp and nuinlier-platc fittings are arranged integrally with the tail, and the locker-lid folds down to make a liandv carrier when necessary. Features of Body. The radiator grille has been altered also, and now has a graceful backward curve with a I'nion .Tack for its insignia.

Convex mudguards, with no runningboards. are a feature, and sturdy pressedsteel wheel* with large chromiumed hubcaps. enhance the cur's appearance. The headlamps are also chromiumed. Kntranee is by means of a wide door which, with the front seats folded, gives easy access to the rear seat. The interior is tastefully upholstered in leather.
