TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. MORE ACTIVITY. WOOLLEN SHARES WANTED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") • CHRISTCHURCH, this day. There was more activity at the morning fall of the Christchurch Exchange to-day than for some time past, 640 shares ilt.tnging hands at generally firm rates. Sales included Bank of New Zealands, which were down 3d at 38/3, New Zealand Breweries at the firm rate of 40/, and British Tobaccos 3d dearer at 48/0. Woolvorths (N.Z.j, Limited, were down 4%d on last week, and Evan's Flours at 22/. A feature of the call was stronger quotations for woollens. Buyers of Felt knd Textiles raieed their best offer 1/3 to 33/3 but could not get a response. There was a rise of 1/3 in offers of 11/9 for Kaiapois (17/ paid), with no sellers. The 7/ paid were quoted at from 4/9 to 5/D, three points stronger than yesterday. Manawatus were firm at from 20/ to 25/, and sellers of Oamarus went up to 13// buyers 12/4. I There also seemed a stronger tone in the ifioat section. Buyers of Gears offered yesterday 'k selling price of 12/, but fellers had raised their limits to 13/. Threepence more was offered for New Zealand Refrigerating (£1 paid), but the price of .17/9 did not attract a seller. The 10/ paid had firm offers at 8/, and North Canterburys were wanted at 15/3. There was an upward trend in Australian Glsse, and buyers raised their bids from £5 87 to £5 11/, buit sellers had also firmed 2/6, closing wide at £5 15/. 6. J. Coles shared ttfe healthier tendency, being quoted at from 77/6 to 79/9, compared with from 77/ to 78/9 yesterday.
