POLLARD GETTING SCARCE. POTATOES FROM KANGITIKEI. Merchant* report extreme difficulty in obtaining either pollard or bran from the local jnilla and in consequence are chiefly dependent upon import* from Australia. Moreover, the Australian market for pollard da very Arm. Sydney dealers are not prepared to quote for fresh business. Local stocks are light and unless the position changes' there) may be an acute ahortaffe before long. Small shipments of bran are still being received. Priees both of pollard ami of bran are unchanged from laat week, and there is a good demand in each ease. Supplies of potatoes arc now being obtained almost solely from Rangitikei and are realising übout 12/ per cwt. Pitkekohe onions still sell at late rates and tho quality is steadily improving. There is u steady demand for small quantities of oats and chaff, with no alteration in quotations. Fowl wheat is unchanged. A cargo is now .being distributed from the Waipori and another is expected by the same vessel uibout February 24. Barley is rutlier slow of sale. The next Australian shipment is due by the Orrtanu about March 1. Muizo is still scarce. A shipment from v* i» expected to arrive in March or April, but no details are yet available. Business in fertilisers is very active as a number of ships huvo come to hand lately with heavy supplies at' basic slag, guano and other lines.
