WAITEMATA GARDENS.
SOCIETY'S COMPETITION. The president. Dr. K. H. Holdgate. presided last night at the first meeting since the vacation of the Waiteinata Horticultural Society. Instructive talks on the planting of lawns by Mr. George Mills, of Takapuna, and on laying out lawns for effect by Mr. J. L. Ha una, were greatly appreciated. The awards of the judges, Messrs. D. P. O'Leary and A. E. Harding, in the members' monthly points competition were:—Flowers and pot plants: Miss J. Geddes, 10 points; Mesdames E. A. Campbell, J. Dickson, A. E. Harding and Miss M. E. Sliutes, nine points each; Mesdames A. Oldbury, K. R. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. H. X. Leefe, eight points each; and Miss R. Collins, seven points. Fruit and vegetables: Mesdames E. A. Camphell, J. Dickson, Mr. and Mrs. H. X'. Leefe, ten points each; Mrs. A. E. Harding. six points. Mrs. H. N. Leefe was awarded the special prize for the best arranged bowl of flowers and foliage.
