ROXY - TIVOUI.
There have been a ivunnber of cowboy singing stars who have won fame in the pa«t, but few, if any, have attained such a degree of popularity as has Gene Autry. The pleasant-voiced star has an attractive personality, and this, combined with his fine natural acting talents, has burnt up for him a following that is not surpassed bv many of his contemporaries. Local patrons will have an opportunity of seeing hi,in at his best in "Springtime in_ the Rockies," bis latest film, which will have its local premiere to-morrow at the Koxy and Tivoli Theatres. Comedy, romance and irnisic are skilfully blended to make the film one of the most entertaining of its type of the year. Old favourite Smiley Burnette ie back with Gene, and be lives up to his high reputation as a comedian. Prettv Pollv Rowles is the feminine lead. Tihe story is built up round the efforts of a young ranch foreman (Autry) to save bis young employer (Miss Rowles) from victimisation at the hands of hostile ranchers. Burly Barton Mac Lane is eolu£U with Glenda FarreH in "Blondes at Work," a "Torchy Blane film, on the same programme.
