Evidence should be submitted by testimonial or otherwise of the possession of personal qualities required for the control, leadership and inspiration of other members of the Observatory staff and for satisfactory co-opera-tion with representatives appointed by the Minister for the Interior, with whose Department the Observatory is associated. Applicants should state their full name, date of birth, and give particulars of war service, if any. The Director will be required to reside at Mount Stromlo Observatory, where an unfurnished residence is provided. The rent charged is 10 per cent of salary. In the event of an applicant from overseas being selected salary will be payable as from the date of embarkation for Australia. First class steamer fares will be provided for the Director, and family, if married. Travelling allowance will be payable whilst on board steamer at the rate of 20/ per diem if accompanied by wife, otherwise at the rate of 10/ per diem.
