"TEMPORARY."
In deciding to erect a wooden building, in Wellington's brick area, for the Social Security Department the Government was apparently influenced by a shortage of steel and also by the thought that the building would be " temporary." Wellington people must have smiled on reading that explanation. Years ago, mqre than twenty years ago, a building was erected, close to the " largest wooden building in the world," for Defence purposes. A street was blocked to make a site, and though there was an outcry it was ineffectual, for who could reply to the contention that the building was needed to enable New Zealand to do her full share in winning the war? Besides, the building was to be " temporary." It is still there, and the street is still blocked.
