MIDGET CAR CONTESTS.

ENOLIBH DRIVER'S SUCCESS.

Two attempts on the New Zealand mile for micUret cars were made at Western .Springs on Saturday night. Both succeeded. The first success went to S. Lindskog (United States), who reduced the record from 1.23 4-5 to 1.23 1-5. Later in the .programme, however, a second attempt on the record was made by W. Reynolds (England), who lowered Lindskog's time by a further Is, making the new record 1.22 1-5.

Reynolds' lap times for the distance were 21s, 20s, 21s and 21 l-ss. The crowd of about 12,000 received a bis thrill in the Visitors' Invitation Stakes, in which K. Wylie. of Australia, capsized on a bend out of the straight after his throttle had jammed. He escaped almost unhurt. The main race, of 12 laps, produced probably the finest contest ever seen on the speedway. The nine starters, with Reynolds and Lindskog on the back mark, made a thrilling spectacle.
