Mexico; Cuba v. Canada. Second round : The winners of the. • first round motches will meet the Philippines anil Japan respectively. In the third Brazil will meet the winner of the foregoing round.
European V. one.— First round: Yugoslavia v. Ireland, Rumania v. Hungary. Poland v. the Netherlands. Germany v. Switzerland. Second round : Norway v. Czechoslovakia, Belgium v. India. Italy v. Monaco. Sweden v. Denmark. Britain v. New Zealand. France v. China.
Overriding the Gcrmantown Club's protests, tile United States Lawn Tennis Association, at a stormy general meeting, allocated the Davis Cup challenge round to the Merlon Cricket Club. Philadelphia. The management committee backed up a letter from .Mr. Norman Brookes, in which the Australian chairman expressed the opinion that the Gcrmantown courts were below international standard. It was admitted that the unsatisfactory turf handicapped the 193S matches. The association carritvl a resolution favouring a change in the International federation's foot-fault rule, isimliiating the provision under which A. K. Quist was penalised In tlie last contest. The association empowered referees to forblil the wearing of spikes. It approved the following dates:— August 14-19.—National doubles, at Long wood, Boston. August 24-20.—Inter-zone Davis Cup
matches, at Longwood. September 2-4.—Davis Cup challenge round, at Philadelphia. September 7-10.—National singles, at Foreet Hills.
