Landing on its aide in the garden of Mr. D. M. Long, 907, New North Road, at seven o'clock this morning was the fate of the Auckland Transport Board's bus No. 9. The bus was driven by Mr. L. Hinton and had just left the Avondale depot. When going down the hill past the Avondale Baptist Church the vehicle skidded, slid across the road, jumped a two-foot scoria wall, then turned over with a crash on its side a foot short of the house, haying been pulled up by a wire fence. Mr. Long was in bed, and the crash reminded him of bombs exploding during a Zeppelin raid over London. There were no passengers in the bus and the driver escaped without a scratch. The bus was seriously damaged.
