THIEF DISTURBED.
SURPRISED IN GARAGE. SMALL SUM TAKEN FROM TILL. An attempt to steal the cash from the office of the Passenger Transport Company, Otahuhti, was made early yesterday morning by a nuin who escaped when he was discovered by a mechanic working on the premises. After entering by forcing a window overlooking the Great South Road, the thief climbed over a grille to reach the office. Ik l fore starting his scarch of tho office ho opened a door to provide an emergency exit. Hearing a noise, a mechanic working in the parage investigated and caught a glimpse of the intruder in the office. The mechanic, unable to reach the office, opened the heavy doors leading to the street, but l«y this time the intruder had escaped.
The thief managed to gather up about ■CI in cash before he departed. There were other sums of money in the office.
