MOOSE LAUNCHED TO-DAY.
OF REVOLUTIONARY DESIGN.
, *1® W type of express lake cruiser, built for Mr. N. Cole, of Heme Bay, by lessrs. Collings and Bell, was launched from their St. Mary's Bay vard to-day. guilt to a novel design produced by Mr. . C. Meikle, in collaboration with the builders, the new boat, which was christened Moose, represents .a striking departure from conventional design. innovation is the way in which the engine has been placed in the stern of the vessel under a short hatch. is a new type of vee-driven marine This gives the boat, which is only 2S feet long, a saloon of 15 by 9 feet, as well as a short open cockpit roomy enough to accommodate two anilchairs. Plate glass sliding windows provide full vision and all-weather protection.
A feature of the design is a forward control panel on which recording instruments are mounted. Other equipment is electrically controlled from this panel. On trials to-day Moose showed a. speed of approximately IS knots. A slightly higher speed is expected after further running. She will be transported to Rotorua later in the week.
