N.Z. TRADE MISSION.
GERMAN VISITOR HERE. i . ■ BARON K. VON OERTZEN. An effort to introduce German motor cars to the New Zealand market forms the main purpose of a visit to New Zealand by Baron K. von Oertzen, general export manager of Auto-Union A. G. Chemnitz, who arrived by the Mariposa this morning, accompanied by his wife, the Baroness von Oertzen. The Baron was one of the co-founders of the company, which is an amalgamation of four of the biggest car manufacturing firms in Germany.
Baron von Oertzen will spend two months in New Zealand, and for the first month will make a tourist visit throughout the country. He and the Baroness are going first to Rotorua and then to Russell, where they will do some big-game fishing. They will spend the remainder of their stay in Wellington, where the Baron will approach the Government concerning the introduction of the cars.
He pointed out this morning that this visit is part of a tour which has embraced Africa, India and Australia. fermany was striving hard for overseas markets, he said, for without overseas markets she could not import necessary raw materials. Asked what chance he thought there was of his mission to New Zealand being successful, he pointed out that at first lie thought Australia would be a hopeless proposition. However, in the first year they had sold 700 cars there. ."I hope the trade treaty between Germany and New Zealand will have a frood effect, he said. "After all, trade between nations is always the best jjuaiazitee of peace."
