NGAWIRI SURPRISES
RACING AT MATAMATA.
PETITE SCORES AT PETONE. RECOLLECTION AT RICCARTON. Six race meetings were held in the. Dominion to-day. The Matamata Racing Club put on its summer fixture at Matamata, while the Canterbury Jockey Club, Opunake Racing Club and Tapanui Racing Club also held one-day fixtures. The Wairoa Racing Club and the Wellington Trotting Club, which opened their meetings last Thursday, concluded them this afternoon. At Matamata the weather was fine, there was a large attendance, and the course was in good order. Tooley Street won the open sprint, the Waharoa Handicap, narrowly from Maori bong and Galilee. British Nation, acconted for the Hinuera Handicap, while the hurdles went to Bryce Street. . Recollection won the hurdles easily at Riccarton, while Spartan annexed the Trial Stakes. Gerfalcon won the Kaitoke Handicap and Petite the Woburn Handicap at Hutt Park. Ohanga, Baron Bold and Gold Petal were successful at Opunake.
