HOME DEFENCE.
Regarding Sir Andrew Russell's article on "Home Defence," I say that all the boys that go into camp should be paid. Who is going to compensate them for loss of wages? Certainly.not tlie employer. Surely Sir Andrew must know that a - big; .percentage of these boys assist their..mothers with the weekly budget, and. like.their usual pocket moheyv I ;wouldj. : suggest that rifle clubs ;be formed in "every! districtwhere it is possible to provide a range, governed by : returned soldiers' in then-particular--district. ' Rifles, etc., should, be supplied by the Government; • and assistance given for maintenance. lam certain that the youiig fellows would enjoy it dozen or so practices during the year, rather than a'week of compulsion in camp. When I lopk ' back I think our rifle training in-New Zealand was the only valuable training we had, the rest being a wash-out when \we ; went through the "bull ring" in Etaples. - 12/ BAR.
