CONTESTS OF FEB. 15, 17, 18,

Eighteen _ competitors for the world's 18ft championship and the Xew Zealand championship are assured. . Taree, St. George and Malvina are coining fix>m Sydney and Joyce IV. from Brisbane, arriving by the Awatea on Monday, February 13. Although, nominations for local 18footers do not close nntil next Wednesday, at a meeting 'held la6t evening of the controlling committee 12 local boats were nominated by affiliated clubs.

Mr. Geo. M. Dennes, chairmail of the committee, presided, and the following dates of the contest were decided:—Wednesday, February 15, first race, starting off St. - Mary's boat harbour wail; second race, Friday, February 17, starting from, the 6ame place; and final race on Saturday, February 18, starting and finishing off the Tamaki YacJht Clubhouse, Bastion Point. A race for the visitors and local 18-footers will also be held by the Point Chevalier Sailing Club, starting at 5 p.m., on Thursday, February 16, and .by the Tamaki Yacht Club on Sunday, February 19. Entries for the two club races, which are open to all 18-footers and will -be -handicap events, also close next Wednesday.

A full programme of entertainments was arranged for the visiting crews and supporters, who are expected to be 60 or more, under the management of Mr. Unupson, .who has been appointed judge of the contest by the Auckland committee.

The prizes will be quite good. The world's championship trophy, now on view in lower Queen Street, was sent across two months ago by the owner of last-year's winder, Taree. To this very handsome and unique trophy the Auckland committee ihas added £30 for first prize, £15 for second and £5 for third. The tprizes in the Tamaki and Point Chevalier Clubs' races will- both be £10, £3 and £2. The New Zealand championship -winner, will receive a trophy of a tray inlaid with New Zealand woods. The winner of the Tamaki Club's race will also receive a cup presented 'by the patron, Sir Ernest Davis, who is taking : a keen interest in the visit of the Syd- ' ney yachtsmen. He will tender a civic reception at noon on Monday, February 13, the day of their arrival, in the council chambers, and -will entertain all of the visitors and about 150 local yachtsmen, . comprising the executive of all local yaciht I clubs, at a. dinner on Tuesday, February 21.' ; i [• It is hoped to take the visitors to RotoI rua on Monday and Tuesday after the | five races, and they will 'leave Auckland by the Awatea on Wednesday, February 23.
