All reports show that .the easterly gale which upset the Anniversary Day regatta arrangements last Monday and kept a number ol* yachts and motor boats at anchor at the various resorts was one of the worst experienced this season. In addition to wrecking the well-known 35ft keel yacht Daisy off the entrance to -Matakana River and the IS-footer Sunbeam on Crusoe Island, it caused quite a number of other accidents and close shaves. The keel yacht Roiaata, which came home on Monday afternoon from Kawau, with the loss or lier dinghy, was not the only craft to brave the elements successfully. The short-end keel yachts Memory, 22ft, and Quest, 25ft, both "skippered" and "crewed" by one man, beat out of the Wade River on Monday. This is one of the worst corncrs of the gulf. Both yachts arrived off the Devonport Yacht Clubhouse on Monday afternoon and picked up their moorings, single-handed, without undue trouble. Mr. Lincoln Wood, owner of Memory, and his brother, who owns Quest, admit that some of the biggest seas in their experience of the gulf were met with on the beat out and the lead home, but both boats arrived dry below deck. They are from the desigu of Mr. Harrison Butler, the well-known amateur British designer. RACE TO MOTUIHI. The second annual race of yachts owned by employees of Messrs. Lidgard Bros, will be held on Sunday in conjunction with the firm's picnic to Motuihi.
