NO REDUCTION.
IMPORTS FROM BRITAIN. MINISTER'S CONFIDENCE. (From Oar Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A statement that, while the import control policy of the Government might change the nature of imports into New Zealand from Great Britain, the volume would not be reduced, but rather increased, was made by the Minister, of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in an address to manufacturers. Mr. Sullivan said he believed that the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition would have the full support of British manufacturers. "The Prime Minister has frequently reiterated that it is the Government's desire to trade to the fullest possible exte.nt with the Motherland. Nothing could be fairer than that, and I am sure the British manufacturer will appreciate that statement for its clear Indication that there is no intention to reduce our purchases in Great Britain. "There is one point 1 would like to make. Our New Zealand manufacturers must give due heed to quality and there must be no undue advance in prices simply because an increased market has been granted and competition has been curtailed. You will realise that any steps in that direction would be suicidal to your own interests and also a breach of faith with the Government.",
