PROTECTIVE MEASURE.
DAHOEB OF UVX WIBM. Recommendations ■ for protecting farmers' fences from broken live wires were submitted to the Franklin Power Board to-day by Its engineer, Mr. L. O. Sharp. He %aid the two commonly accepted methods of protecting wire fences from becoming live through power linen falling on them were to earth the fences crossed by power lines or to provide earthed guards on the power poles. Of the two methods, the catch bracket was the more positive, added Mr. Sharp. The cost of earthing a fence would be approximately 4/8, while the catch bracket would cost 3/9. Lines crossed about 12,000 fences in the board's area, and the total cost of earthing would probably exceed £3000. The board decided, to, have fences crossed by main lines earthed at its expense, and to advise ratepayers that, they could hava catch brackets fitted In the case of Service lines at a small charge.
