INCREASE DENIED.
PRICE OF TINNED FOODS. (Itv Telegraph.— Progs Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Questioned about the published statement that wholesale merchants had increased the price of canned foodstuffs by ."i per cent because of a shortage of supplies caused by the import restrictions, a representative of a Wellington firm importing grocery supplies said that the statement was without foundation. He said that because restrictions had t>een placed on the importation of canned and dried fruits an eventual rise in price was likely, but up to the present no change had been made. There had been an increase in the wholesale price- of tinned salmon and sardinM, but in each case the increase was in no way connected with the import regulations.
