Tinkerbell on the Sands
Last week, you will remember, I told you something about the making of shell posies and how they could be wired and pierced for sprays. This time we are actually going' to make some of these sprays, but we. must handle the shells very carefully, as many of them are likely to become chipped.
Small white shells are used for this flower spray, two for each petal in ail oyster-like manner. As there are five petals, ten shells are -required for each flower; These same shells are used singly for the leaves. A gold wooden bead makes the centre of the flowers, and a small circle of green felt cut with a serrated edge forms the calyx. Each shell is bored' with two holes and is coloured .before wiring, as it is easier in this ease, the shells being wired together in twos, for the in.sides will look pretty when tinted a pale shade. • The colouring being complete wire the shells in pairs for the petals, again allowing the wire Sin or Din long. Wire the wooden bend for the centre and place the petals round it. Hold them
in position quite close to the shells and twist the wire stems together. Cut a lin circle of green felt and serrate the edges. Slake a small hole in the centre and thread the twisted stem through it. To hold this in position close to the flower wrap over the top of the stem several times with the gutta percha. Before wrapping the flower stoms, wire the shells for the loaves and wrap these stems so that a leaf can be introduced into the stem of each flower. There arc six leaves of varying size. Finally when all the stems have been wrapped, group the flowers "together with two more of the leaves and bind the steins together with gutta percha, Introducing the two .remaining leaves during the wrapping.
