LAMB SHOT.
"THOUGHT IT. WAS GOAT." STORY NOT BELIEVED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON", Friday. Fines of £5 cach •wore imposed in tlie Magistrate's CouK on Frank John Olifent (22), John Keith Brackenridjre (20), and Frederick Albert Fraser (18), for the theft of a carcase of lamb at Akatarawa on December 18. The accused obtained permission to shoot on the farm, and said they shot a lamb. nii>takinpr a movement, in the brush for goats they were hunting. Tliev were discovered in a shed skinning the carcase. "To kill slicep hi t'ne country is a very serious matter, and I do not believe in the poat story."' said the magistrate, after hearing the evidence. 'Their whole evidence is inconsistent. Tliev may have fallen to sudden temptation, but they abused hospitality."'
