BIG SHEEP TREK.
EAST COAST STORES. THOUSANDS FOR WAIKATO. * t ' 7 (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. ~?e ^or^s from Gisborne stating that difficulty in disposing of breeding ewes m the Waikato is likely to result in -M smaller trade between the two district! are denied by leading Hamilton stock agencies. The first consignment of ~ borne sheep offered at MorrinsrOle 5 yesterday met with an excellent reception S from a large and representative bench of •<$ buyers. A large number of East Coait sheep is on the move and 10,000 head will ■$$, be offered at Morrinsville next week aad X?heavy consignments will be yarded at Waikato centres for some weeks. This seems to contradict statements made-re-cently that East Coast sheepownen ire disinclined to deal on a consignment basis. It is confidently anticipated i&at - the store sheep market in the Waikato will harden in the near future rnd at present prices are considered to be lisatisfactory.
MORE FOR HAWKE'S BAY. _• <."«» ■ Jj. BUYING SHEEP AND CATTLE."- | (By Telegraph.—Pre&s Association.) '% GISBORNE, Friday. An exceptionally big movement.of '&>&■■?s will take place between Gisborne asd Hawke s Bay during the coming flirtai. i* ■ e numbers involved exceeding ;/ the business done between the two -iiwi in any season for a long time. . The demand from Hawke's Bay, aW S from districts beyond, has come at a time when Poverty Bay farmers are find- -v. mg difficult}' in disposing of their sheep to the Waikato, whicb baa been & inert i valuable outlet in recent years. Only., a/ limited amount oi forward buying of * breeding ewes was done by Waikato buyers in the Gisborne district and Poverty Bay flockowners are disinclined to send sheep out of the district on consignment. Forward sales during the past week , have been on the following -basis:— Sheep. Five-year ewes, 17/6 to 18/; sixyear ewes, 13/ to io/; two-tooth wethers, 12/6 to 14/; four-tooth wethers, 15/ to 10/0. Cattle: Yearling steers, £4 10/ to £5; two-year steers, £6 5/ to £6 10/; „ empty cows, £4 5/ to £4 10/. There has been little demand from the Waikato for Gisborne district cattle except for bullocks, which are in tot short supply. Hawke's Bay buyers, how- > ever, have been operating freely for other sorts. One line of 400, mostly yearling!, is to go to Feilding.
