NEW CATHEDRAL.

PLANS FOR WELLINGTON. IXTJ. NT lON OF CATHOLIC'S. (From Our Correspondent.) WELLIXftTOX, Friday. The foundation stone of the Roman Catholic Cathedral at Wellington will, it is hoped, be laid on the corncr of Cambridge Terrace and Buckle Street in February, 1940. At that time, for the first time in Xew Zealand history, * Papal Legate will be visiting the Dominion for the Catholic congress in Wellington, and he will probably lay the stone. For some yearfe it has been proposed that a Catholic Cathedral should be erected in Wellington. An excellent site has been acquired. Although no announcement has yet been made :in to the name of the Papal Legate, it is understood he will be an Knglish-spcaking cardinal. This is the first occasion on which a Papal Legate lias been appointed to Xew Zealand, although the country has been previously visited by a cardinal oi\ three or four occasions. The cardinal will take precedence over the Apostolic delegate, Archbishop Panico, who will also be present at the congress. The Pope hae approved the sending of a Legate to the congress, in view of Its being the Catholic part in the New Zealand national celebrations of the centennial. Plans for the proposed cathedral will probably be announced after the return of Archbishop O'Shea from his tour of England. Europe and the United States, during which he is making a study of. ecclesiastic architecture.- 1
