EMERGENCY CALL.
WATER FOR HOSPITAL. SHORTAGE AT ROTORUA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Thursday. The revelation that during December the Rotorua water supply was so severely taxed that an emergency call for cold water for the operating theatre had to be made by the authorities of the Rotorua Hospital was made at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board to-day. The hospital steward at Rotorua reported that he had complained to the Tourist Department, but that their plant could not cope with the demand, There was no water in the licepital, he said. Another serious aspect of the position was the danger of there being insufficient water available in case of lire. The chairman, Mr. Frank Findlav, paid that the dangerous, period was from December 2."> to January 7. Mr. J. Banks attributed the trouble to the influx of tourist** and other visitors greatly increasing the consumption of water, and to the short sbhtcdlicss of the previous administration in making inadequate provision a« regards the size of the water pipes. 011 the (notion of the chairman it was decided to draw the attention of the Hon. F. Langstone, Minister in Charge of the Tourist Department, to the serious inconvenience and possible danger caused by the inadequacy of the water supply.
