A Donkey Serenade

Three For a Jolly Competition

I don't know what Mary and her little lamb would have thought of the donkey serenade, but Mary and her little horse thought it was just wonderful. Perhaps it was because the animals were in the same sad state as herself—they could only partially be seen. When our artist sketched a picture for a new competition she painted white lines through all the figures. The task was for readers to complete the picture and make it look as natural as possible.

There were so many guide lines in the sketch that Peter Pan expected dozens of entries, but the quantity and quality of this contest were both disappointing. Possibly this is due to the fact that examinations are claiming a certain amount of attentr n at the moment and so young people are not able to devote so much of their time to competitions.

Two of the neatest entries came from Peggy and Ailsa Wallace, who submit consistent good work fcr many of cur competitions. Many readers made the mistake of allowing the da k lines to be too plainly leen, thus spoiling an otherwise good attempt. Here is the list of the twenty-four lucky ones:—
