the headmaster of a Dorset public school believes he has found evidence supporting these rumours. The clue is a Greek inscription chiselled by Lawrence over the doorway of his cottage in Dorset. It has been translated alternatively as " Why worry?" and "Nothing matters," but the , Dorset headmaster eavs the true trans- ■ lation is "Doesn't care." The quotation is from a Greek story. Hippocleides, a suitor for the daughter lof Cleisthenes, Tyrant of Sicyon, performed dances on a table to prove hie l- social qualities, then stood on his head n and "gesticulated with his legs." The n Tyrant, disgusted, said: "You have a danced away your bride." The suitor v replied: "Hippocleides doesn't care." ........
