Mr. L. J. Stevens returned from the south by the Limited express this morning. Mr. F. L. G. West left Auckland by special 'plane this morning on a business visit to Wellington. Mr. L. K. Munro returned from a visit to Palmerston North by the Limited express tins morning. Mr. R. M. Saddington returned from a visit to Wellington by the Limited express this morning. Colonel E. Puttiek, adjutant and quartermaster-general, Army Headquarters, Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Mr. S. Castle-Sinith, London director | of Messrs. Samuel Courtauld and Company, who arrived at Wellington by the Awatea is visiting Auckland. 1 Professor H. Sir Donald McOavin, of Wellington, who has been on a brief ■v isit to Auckland, returned south by the early express this afternoon. Mr. W. E. Anderson, secretary of the Auckland Employers' Association, returned from Wellington by this morning's Limited express. Squadron-Leader L. -Crocker. R.A.F., who has been conducting technical examinations at the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base at Hobsonviile, has returned to Wellington. Mr. B. L. Dallard, Controller-General of Prisons, and Mr. A. A. Mabin, secretary of the New Zealand Prisons Board, will return south by the Limited express this evening after a short visit to Auckland. Dr. Benzion Shein, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has arrived at Wellington from Sydney r: the course of a lecture tour of the world undertaken on behalf of the Zionist movement. Signor Piero Gliiglione, an Italian journalist and mountaineer, is at present touring the West Coast of the South Island. He is 011 a writing tour for the newspaper "Gazetta del Popolo," of Turin. Mr. T. M. Barton, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Barton, of Stanley Bay. lias received an appointment under the Audit Department of the Colonial Office, and has been posted to Nigeria as assistant auditor. Mr. H. \Y. Shove, president of the I Auckland Manufacturers' Association, Mr. W. J. Truscott, vice-president, Mr. F. N. Ambler, a past president, and Mr. N. E. Crimp, secretary, returned from Wellington bv train this morning. They attended (he annual meeting of the NewZealand Manufacturers' Federation held in that city. Archdeacon TT. A. Hawkins, of Howick. who is leaving the district to undertake a more extensive interest in Maori mission work, was the recipient of manv goodwill gifts from the congregation of (he Howick Anglican Church. Speakers at a largely-attended farewell meetinsr, who eulogised bis work for the district, included the Rev. Father Downey, of the Ho wick Catholic Church, and the Rev. J. F. Tylee, of the Presbyterian Church.
