ARCHITECTS' WORK.
APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT.
Concern at the inroads which it stated had been made by Government Dcpartment« into the work of private architectural practitioners was expressed in a report presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland District branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects on Wednesday. The report mentioned also that some of the branch members had been encouraged to carry out work for the Government.
"We earnestly hope that the Government this country will see the wisdom of entrusting all major w'ork of a public nature to the care of private architects, whose freedom of thought, design and constructive ability enables them to evolve the best work," stated the report. It wss felt that control of architectural work by the State did not tend to produce the best in design.
