FOR FINLAND.

N.Z. OLYMPIANS.

ONLY TWO MEN WORTHY.

DCMXHIOir CHAIRMAN'S VIEW. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Decisions to advke national associations that it had been suggested New Zealand should send a small team to the Olympic (;,uncs in Finland in July, 1940; that it should arrive in England three or four months before that date; and that it should consist- only of those competitors \\h.. were really in top world class, were ma tie by the council of the Xew Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association at its meeting last evening.

National associations are to be asked to consider the posUion and advise the council within three months, when a definite decision will be made.

Mr. H. McCormick (chairman) said that it would be fairly expensive to send men to Finland and it seemed to him that any team Xew Zealand sent should be a very small one. In tie past the association had had a meat <leal of difficulty in knowin/ just when to send a team away. He had discussed the question with Dr. .T. E. Lovelock, who had said that the ideal way whs to land the men some months beforehand at or near the scene of a competition. 'I his would give them a proper opportunity to become acclimatised.

At present, continued Mr. McCormick lie could see only two men in New Zea land who appeared worth sending, V. P.

Boot and C. H. Matthew*. If there were only two it might be worth sending them three or four months before the Games opened. Mr. J. D. Willis, Dominion Wr«rtlin2 Union: I think we should first make «]» our minds on the possible size of the team. In the past we have sent classcs of athjetes who have had no chance at all. At present I think Boot and Matthews are the only two who "have a chance. Mr. McCormick said that the team would have to leave New Zealand about the end of February, 1910, if it were to sen ' ear^y " ———
