OARSMEN'S DAY AT DEVONPORT.
INTER-CLUB CONTESTS. BENNETT SHIELD REGATTA. ✓ NORTH SHORE CLUB REVIVAL. The first open racing test of the season will be provided at the R. F. Bennett Memorial Shield regatta, to be held on the i North Shore course to-morrow. The six harbour clulis. Auckland, Waitemata. St. George's, West End. North Shore and University are competing, and in the seven races have placed 42 crews. This splendid entry is very pleasing. Instead of cash prizes each race carries an interclub trophy. The club which scores the biggest number of points in all events becomes the holder of the R.'F. Bennett -Memorial Shield.
Six races are over the mile course, starting from the Calliope Dock wharf, and one, the mile and a half, starting from Stanley Point. All will finish off the North Shore Rowing Club's boathouse.
The No. 2 and Xo. 3 crews of each club will carry a distinguishing pennant on the stern of their boats. The committee warn all ci ?ws that the rule relating to starting will be strictly enforced in every race. Clubs' should make arrangements to get their boats across the harbour in the morning. The first race, the maiden fours open, starts at 2.20 p.m.
The officials are:— Starter. Mr. S. H. Buchanan; judges. Mrs. Bennett. Messrs. Dryland, R. B. Rutledge. ('. G. Herdnian (chairman, A.K.A.); umpire, Mr. I'. Grahame.
The pala will serve as the official opening of the North Shore Club's season and everything indicates that the bijr effort
being_made to revive the old cluh will be successful. Many old members from various parts of the Dominion have notified their- intention of being present. Any who have missed an invitation are requested to be present. It has been a difficult task to retrace old members and although so many names have been secured it is quite likely some have been missed. ———— — __ J U HTTiKh CLUB, _____ The official opening of the Jubilee Rowing Club (Blind Institute) takes place tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. During the afternoon a pair-oar race will take place between-, R.
