MR. A. D. STEWART RETIRING.
LONG SERVICE WITH CITY FIRM.
After nearly 00 years in the service of one firm, Mr. A. D. Stewart, counting house manager in the Auckland warehouse of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Limited, has announced his retirement to take effect from January next. Landing in New Zealand at the age of 12 with his parents in January, 1870, Mr. Stewart completed his education at the Middle District, or Arthur Street, School, Dunedin. In February, ISBO. he joined the Dunedin branch of the firm as office boy. and nine years later was transferred to Wellington as shipping clerk. Some time after being promoted to the position of chief clerk at Wellington lie was transferred to his present position at Auckland, where he succeeded the late Mr. H. C. Tewsley.
Widely recognised as an authority on bankruptcy law and procedure, Mr. Stewart is a number of tlie New Zealand Society of Accountants and of the Australian Institute of Secretary's. For many years lie did a considerable* amount of lecturing work for Auckland University College and the Accountancy Students' Society, and he has had a very long association with commercial accountancy i:i *"ie Dominion.
In excellent lies' Ith nfter having made a wonderful recovery from a recent serious operation, Mr. Stewart is a keen amateur gardener, having over half an acre planted in flowers and shrubs. "Ft keeps one busy, you know," he smilingly remarked to reporter. He is also interested in photography, and is now "looking forward to a good reft" after an active working life equal to the average man's normal span of existence. Mr. Stewart will be succeeded by Mr. W. Bigelow.
