GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD. A meeting of the Glen Eden Town Board was presided over by Captain A. G. Hackett. Heavy Traffic Fees.—The board assented to a resolution carried at a recent conference of representatives of constituent local authorities in tlie No. la Heavy Traffic District, providing for an immediate distribution of fees received for the first two quarters of the licensing year with a subsequent adjustment when the Minister of Transport has made a new order in terms of Clause 12 of the regulations. District Boundaries.—The Under-Secre-tary, Department of Internal Affairs, wrote requesting the clerk to confer with _ the town clerk of New Lynn with a view to suggesting a suitable date from which the alteration of boundaries between the 5 two districts shall be effected. The clerk reported that the conference had taken . place, and that it had been agreed that . the alteration be effective on March 31 next. The board approved of this sug--5 gestion. - Town Hall Lease.—Consideration of an i application from the lessees of the Town > Hall for an extension of the term of the lease for a further period of three years from the date of termination of the existing lease, viz., August, 1939, was deferred. The board decided, that the position would 5 be reviewed later in the term of the pre- - sent lease. > New Post Office.—The Pos tin aster- , General advised the board that, owing to the large building programme at present under consideration, it is not possible to 5 proceed immediately with the erection of 1 a new post office at Glen Eden. The - Minister stated that buildings are being - erected as rapidly as possible and that . the requirements of Glen Eden would be t fully met when the time arrives. ' Gorse and Noxious Weed.—lt was decided that the necessary action be 2 taken to have gorse placed on the schedi ule of noxious weeds in the town district. - Building Permits.—Building permits to j the value of £800 were approved.

3 5 The fortnightly meeting of the Papa- . toetoe Town Board was held last night, . when the chairman, Mr. L. Kendall, pre--1 sided over a full attendance. , Traffic Report.—The traffic inspector reported having taken live cases on behalf of the board, lines amounting to £5. In a regard to the circular letter re traffic signs i from the Commissioner of Transport, the I traffic inspector, Mr; A. Breed, agreed to ' the proposals, but considered that in the interests of road safety the right hand rule should be abolished and replaced with a s regulation making it compulsory for all n traffic entering a main road from a by-road to stop. The report was received and (1 approved. • a Water Supply.—A letter was received from the Manukau County asking whether the board would 6upply to areas in Huia, Kimpton, Hoteo, Carruth, Allenby and d Puhinui Roads with water. The request ie was agreed to. a Works Report.—A petition from resir_ dents of Wallace Road to continue the 'new concrete footpath to the full length of the road was received and the original plan to be adhered to. The foreman ? reported the completion of the bitumen il in Shirley and the laying of concrete " footpaths in Wallace Road. An application from the vestry of St. George's Church in Landscape Road for a street light near the church was granted, also a request from the officers of the Baptist Church in St. George Street for a traffic sign outside their church was agreed to. A complaint in regard to the footpath in Puhinui Road was received and the foreman was instructed to keep the matter in hand. n Reserves.—The Auckland Cricket Asso--I<r ciation wrote congratulating the board on the excellent condition of the wickets and r _ outfield of the Papatoetoe Reserve. Their committee expressed their appreciation for such a state and also the amicable relations which exist between the two bodies. " Complaint re Fowls.—A complaint was , made in regard to fowls being kept by a . resident of Winter Road. The health ls inspector reported that he had examined ' n the premises and found that all conditions ' a complied with the health regulations and with the exception of noise, there was no 0 ' cause for complaint. ? e Fly Menace. —The Health Department ll ® issued a request that all precautions should 1( i be taken to prevent rubbish accumulating ■w in the district and stating that residents k- should have all organic matter immediately destroyed to prevent the breeding of flies. The matter was placed in the hands of the local health inspector with full power to act and to take proceedings where necessary. Auckland Provincial Centennial Council. —A letter was received from the Centennial committee asking board's co-opera-os tion in a metropolitan memorial on behalf of local bodies, and it was resolved el- to reply that as Papatoetoe was n- outside the metropolitan area it would ay take no part in the conference which is k- to take place and that efforts would be concentrated locally.
