I BUILDING UP SUPPLIES. INCREASED IMPORTATIONS. (From Our Correspondent.) f CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A statement that reserves of ammunition for both the Air Force and the Army are being built up in New Zealand was made bv the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in an interview. "Although it Js difficult to get, we are .Obtaining as much ammunition aa we ptasibly can for the Air Force,"said Mr. Jones. "Great Britain has allowed the Dominion a certain quantity of air ammunition from her own stock.** , Mr. Jones said that, as to ammunittoa for the Army, order* had been placed in England for a long time, and eanipmemt was also oa order. A quantity of ammunition was coming from Australia and small arms ammunition was feeing supplied by the Colonial Ammunition Company, which had a factory in Auckland. Increased importations of- arms, ammunition and explosives are reported in the Abstract of Statistics. For the nine months ended September 50, 1938, the value of the importation* was £322,000.
