IN NEW JOBS.
STAFF LENDS HAND.
KILLING AND LOADING.
WOT FIRST EXPERIENCE.
The office staff of the Weetfield freezing Company was expected to be railed upon this afternoon to assist in the killing, dressing and loading of certain stock required for urgent delivery.
With all the employees usually engaged in slaughtering and the other major activities of the works involved in the stoppage, operations came to a standstill yesterday. It was stated this afternoon, however, that members of other departments, including the office staff, had already taken a part in the loading out of the works of chilled beef for the Port Townsvilkv, which is due to sail from Auckland on Saturday. The position regarding the Port Townsville's shipment is considered serious, in view of a statement by the management that even if killing was resumed at the earliest possible moment the works would not be able to fill tho space reserved in the ship. However, it has been possible to send out from the works the beef already chilled and killed.
Members of the office' staff may be required to help in the killing of a number of bobby calves and pigs that are now on hand, but it is stated that it will not be nn experience new to many of them. They have dene this emergency work on the oceCsion of previous stoppages.
Rumours that farmers were coming to Uestlield to assist in the killing could not be confirmed. It was explained that members of the company's Waikato Hold staff had already arrived for this purpose. The killing of the young lambs which were on hand before the stoppage may be started to-morrow.
