NEGLIGENT MOTORISTS.

PROSECUTIONS AT HAMILTON. (From Our Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Monday. How a motorist, when about to park his car in Victoria Street, Hamilton, pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and caused the car to jump the footpath and strike three pedestrians was told in the Hamilton Police Court to-day, when David Lithgow, a farmer, of Morrinsville, wae charged with negligent driving.

One witness en id the car approached the parking place at too high a speed. The pedestrian* were standing 7ft away from the edge of the footpath when they were struck. They were not seriously injured.

The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Peterson, imposed a fine of £2 on defendant, who did not appear.

Harriett May Bary (Mr. A. L. Tompkins), who backed her car in Norton Road, Frankton, and struck two women who were crossing the etreet, was fined £2 for negligent driving. The pedestrians were not seriously hurt.
