An increase in subscribers and. a satisfactorj r financial position were reported j at the annual meeting of the Howick Public Library. Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mr. G. A. Newton, who for the past 18 years has acted as honorary secretary and treasurer. In recognition of his long service he was elected a life member. A similar honour was bestowed upon the lie v. T. Scott and Mrs. D. N. Boves. The following officeos were elected:— President, Colonel A. C. Amy; vicepresidents, Mrs. W. R. Tracey, Mr. F. P. Rishwortli; trustees. Messrs. CI. Church, G. A. Newton. E. Walsh. G. P. Cobbett, F. P. Rishwortli, E. R. Burton, Colonel A. C. Amy, Mesdames J. C. Litten and W. R. Tracey; council, Messrs. G. P. Cobbett, C. Pritchard. Mesdames W. J. Rutherford, P. Williams, W. E. Mead, J. Hughes and Miss H. L. Smith; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. P. Cobbett; honorary auditor, Mr. E. R. Burton.
