TAKAPUNA BAND.
A happy gathering of band supporters i were present at the band hall on Saturday evening last, when Chief Petty Officer E. Short, of H.M.S. Achilles, tendered a complimentary dance to the ladies' social committee of the Takapuna Citizens' Band, prior to his departure for England. Dance musk was supplied on the piano by Mrs. Taylor, with accordion extras by Messrs. J. Henderson and Hewitt. The duties oi master of ceremonies were carried out by Bandsman L. J. Henderson. The band's popular president, Captain J. A Algie, accompanied by Mrs. Algie, was present, and on behalf of the committee i and band, he presented a fountain pen - to Chief Petty Officer Short, for his t worthy interest and help to the band 1 both as a player on the cornet and supt porter. C.P.O. Short replied feelinglj , on the many fine friends he had madt j in the band, since being stationed iT - Auckland. Two keenly contested Mont( - Carlo waltzes were staged, the winnerf . being Captain J. A. Algie and Mis; Hilda Clewett and Mr. and Mrs. Beni i, son.
