VETERINARY WORK. FOUR MORE GRANTED. TRAINING OVERSEAS. < (Hy Telegrnph.— Pros* Association.) WELLINGTON. Sunday. 1 Four veterinary scholarship!* have been grunted for MKI» by the Government. Kach scholarship in of an annual j value of £100. and selected candidate* are to train at the Sydney University , veterinary school, or a veterinary college in the I'nitod Kingdom. 1 Student* attending the veterinary ' school in Sydney will have an annual ' return fare Ix'tween New Zealand and ' Ai% tralia (Mid by the Government, but no transport allowance will be. given should the student undergo training for the veterinary profession at one of the college* in Britain. Six scholarships in veterinary science were given 'in It»UH and four in 1 All of the JO:W scholarships went to the Sydney veterinary school. Assuming they |>41 ss their final examinations next month, they will return to the Dominion at the end of the year ns fully <|uali(icd veterinary surgeons. These students entered the school under the old four years' course. As they had already parsed the requisite subjects to entitle them to the first year's remission of the course, they will be the first to qualify under the bursary scheme inaugurated by the present Government. The scholarships which the Government is now offering are tenable for five years to students entering the Sydney veterinary school, with a reduction to four years in the case of those whoso qualifications in certain subjects entitle them to such a remission. The dnration of the scholarship and the remission allowed is the same for student* training in the United Kingdom. The first session at the Sydney school will start in March, and that at the colleges in the United Kingdom in October. Intending applicants must have passed the university entrance examination. Preference will be given to those who have passed the medical intermediate examination or its equivalent in the required subjects—zoology, botany, physic* and organic and inorganic chemistry. Students entering the Sydney school will be required to undertake practical training in veterinary work in New Zealand, to the satisfaction of the Department of Agriculture, during their three months' annual vacation. Successful applicants will be required to enter into an agreement with the Government that they will undertake veterinary work within the Dominion, for at leant five years after qualifying, either in the service of the Department, If required, or otherwise In lomi capacity approved by the Department.
