TRIUMPH AT ELLERSLIE

TEPOTO'S EASY VICTORY. SUCCESS OF WOTAN IN SOUTH. In a thrilling finish, with heads only separating the placed horses, the favourite, Valamito, won the Alison Cup at the Auckland Racing Club's mid-spring meeting at Ellerslie this afternoon. There were so many scratchings in the Melrose Maiden Handicap that it was not necessary to run the event in two divisions. The favourite, Kenneth Robert, won narrowly from Odtaa. Backers were not so accurate in the Milford in which Tepoto, fourth favourite, scored an easy win from Penzance. In the Manchester Handicap, the main event at Fielding, Wotan, third favourite, defeated Galteenmore by two lengths. Logan Derby did as most Forbury Park backers had hoped in winning the Forbury Handicap. Winners at Ashburton included Elmarch, Keen Sight and Sure Potts.
