TOWN PLANNING- EXPERT. British Official Wireless. RUGBY, November 25. A pioneer town planning- expert, Sir Raymond Unwin, was presented with tlie Ebenezer Howard memorial medal yesterday. The Minister of Health. Mr. Walter Elliot, in a speech at the function said one of the most striking ways in which j the planned growth of towns had reacted upon the lives of the people was exemplified in transport delays. Motor transport, instead of speeding up. had slowed down traffic, and now it was often quicker to walk. The horse bus in I!U4 carried its passengers between Oxford Circus and Swiss Cottajre more quickly than the motor bus did to-day. Sir Raymond, in replying, emphasised that the true purpose of town planning was not restrictive. Its aim was to afford greater and wider opportunities for right living and the right location of human activitv.
